5 Ways to Naturally Balance Your Hormones

Our hormones are extremely important for the maintenance, functionality, and health of our bodies. From estrogen and testosterone to adrenaline and insulin, they all play a vital role in delivering chemical messages to our brain. If one or more of our hormone levels are even slightly imbalanced, it can cause many health problems – some quite major!

Hormone imbalance treatments, or hormone control methods, vary from birth control pills and insulin injections to thyroid medication and HRT, and many people who suffer from hormonal disorders rely on these synthetic medications for a long time. But there may be a more natural alternative that you can try…

1. Use Adaptogens

Adaptogen herbs are a unique class of plants that promote hormone balance and can protect us from a range of illnesses and stressors. Adaptogens boost our immune system, too, and can help us combat anxiety. Ashwagandha, Rhodiola, and holy basil can all improve thyroid function, reduce anxiety and depression, balance blood sugar levels, and support our adrenal gland.

2. Healthy Fats

Swapping out some of your carbohydrate intake for healthy fats instead can aid the function of your hormone production glands, and keep your hormone balance in check. The body relies on fats to create hormones, and they help to keep inflammation at bay, boost your metabolism and promote weight loss – the opposite to refined carbs!

3. Use Essential Oils

There are a number of essential oils which help rid the body of toxins and in turn, balance hormone levels. For Estrogen balance, Clary Sage contains natural phytoestrogens, regulating your menstrual cycle, relieving symptoms of PMS and can even reduce the chances of ovarian cancer.

For thyroid help and to regulate the health of your gut, fennel has been widely used to improve digestion, boost metabolism and reduce inflammation.

Lavender oil is well known for aiding better sleep, which will help to balance your natural hormone levels as well. It also promotes emotional balance and can reduce symptoms of stress and anxiety.

Sandalwood has been known to increase libido, reduce stress, boost mental clarity and help you relax. By leveling your stress levels, it can lead to a better hormone balance overall.

4. Probiotics

Taking a daily probiotic can help to repair your gut lining, which will mean a better, more balanced environment for your hormones – especially for thyroid production. Probiotics and healthy bacteria can also improve your production of insulin, ghrelin, and leptin.

5. Get More Sleep

7-8 hours of sleep is essential for your body’s key hormone production and regulation. Disturbing your sleep pattern can be one of the worst habits when it comes to hormone imbalances. How? Timing! For example, your ‘stress hormone’ Cortisol, is regulated at midnight, therefore a lack of sleep means a disruption to this regulation!
