Simple & Effective Ways to Naturally Whiten Your Teeth
In the US, there are hundreds of products to choose from when it comes to getting whiter, gleaming teeth – however, many of them use harsh chemicals to bleach teeth, and can lead to over-sensitive, painful side effects.
Here at Organica, we wanted to give you some alternative, more natural ways to whiten your teeth safely and gently.
What Causes Tooth Discoloration?
There are many different reasons for tooth yellowing, but it’s mainly down to your diet and your cleaning routine. Many foods and drinks can stain your tooth enamel, like coffee, red wine and dark sauces. Smoking can also cause a yellowing of the teeth, where the enamel has worn away.
Natural Ways to Get Whiter Teeth:
Traditional in Indian communities, Oil Pulling is meant to improve overall oral hygiene, remove toxins from the gums, and whiten teeth. It involves swishing oil (in any form, e.g. coconut oil) in your mouth to remove bacteria which can turn into plaque.
To Oil Pull, put 1tbsp of coconut oil in your mouth and push and pull the oil through your teeth and around your mouth. Do this for around 15 minutes and then discard of the oil into a trash can (not your sink! It can solidify and cause blockages!)
Baking Soda has natural whitening properties, and can be found it many popular toothpastes. It’s very mild, so won’t cause any sensitivity, and prevents any bacteria from growing by creating an alkaline environment in the mouth.
To try Baking Soda Brushing, mix 1tsp of baking soda with 2tsp of water, and brush your teeth with the paste. Try this a few times a week and you’ll start to notice an improvement after a few weeks!
Apple Cider Vinegar:
This popular vinegar has been used for years as an effective disinfectant and natural cleaning product – and it can do the same to your teeth! The active ingredient in Apple Cider Vinegar is acid, which quickly kills any bacteria in the mouth. The acid can also erode the plaque on your teeth, making them whiter and brighter.
To use, dilute a small amount with water and swish it around your mouth like mouthwash for several minutes. Spit, then rinse your mouth with fresh water afterwards.
Brushing your teeth with charcoal pulls toxins from the mouth and removes stains from teeth. You can get a variation of charcoal powders or charcoal toothpaste which will make your teeth whiter and healthier.
