A Turmeric Mask That Will Work Wonders On Your Skin! Here's How...
Turmeric is another one of those all-natural ingredients which we’re seeing in our drinks, food and beauty products. But what are the benefits of using it on our skin? And is there anything you need to know before delving into the world of turmeric masks?
(Hint: there is, so keep reading to find out!)
Benefits of Turmeric for the skin
Helps Reduce Oiliness
Turmeric is great at reducing over-oiliness, so if you suffer from clogged pores, whiteheads and blackheads galore, turmeric masks are the answer! To include it in your face masks, see below for the recipe! (Using turmeric straight onto your skin can often leave a yellow stain that can last a little while so it's best to avoid that.)
Prevents Premature Aging
Turmeric is full of antioxidants that can help protect your skin against environmental stressors including UV damage, pollution and smoke. Because up to 90% of aging is down to sun damage, using antioxidants helps to protect your skin every day of the year. This can prevent premature aging, keeping your skin youthful and plump!
Dark spots on your skin, as well as acne scars and uneven skin tone, can be evened out using turmeric! It’s been used for thousands of years to help brighten and lighten skin.
Turmeric is great to use of even the most sensitive skin. Providing minerals and antioxidants to your skin can often irritate certain skin types, but with turmeric you know you’ll be nourishing the skin without harsh products!
This means that it’s great for acne, dry skin, psoriasis and eczema! It will help calm your skin and fight the inflamed, leaving your skin calm and hydrated, without being too harsh on the skin. It’s down to the curcumin, a phytonutrient which has shown to be a very effective anti-inflammatory without the toxicity included in common anti-inflammatory treatments.
Turmeric also works as a great exfoliator, too, but will remain gentle on the skin!
BUT the one thing you should remember is not to use turmeric just before going out! The color of the mask can sometimes leave a slight tinge of yellow if left on too long, so make sure you don’t have any important events straight after applying!
- ½ teaspoon turmeric powder
- ½ teaspoon organic apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon of organic, raw, local honey
- ½ teaspoon milk or yogurt
- [optional] 1 drop lemon essential oil or fresh lemon juice for additional skin brightening
Cleanse your face and wash away all impurities
In a small bowl, mix the turmeric powder with the honey, apple cider vinegar, milk or yogurt and optional lemon oil. Make it so that the consistency is thick enough to stay on your face.
Apply the mask carefully avoiding the eye area.
Allow the mask sit on your face for 15–20 minutes then rinse with warm water.
If you have any leftover, you can cover and leave in the fridge for your next application.
Apply twice a week for best results.
Turmeric is full of wonderful properties that can help brighten you skin, protect you from premature aging and even help clear out blocked pores! It’s a great way to look after your skin if you tend to react to overly harsh products on the market as it remains effective whilst being incredibly gentle. Just make sure you don’t stain your clothes or towels!
