What Your Feet Can Tell You About Your Health!

Do your feet need come TLC? Do they feel worn out, swollen or numb at the end of the day? Well, all of these relatively normal symptoms can actually be a warning sign! Your feet are actually an incredible diagnostic tool when it comes to our overall health and body function. From heel to toe, your feet can provide vital clues for a whole host of health problems, but not many people know what signs to look out for. From temperature to toenail color, it’s a good idea to check your foot health if you’re feeling under the weather.

Here at Organica, we wanted to give you the low-down on what your feet could be telling you about your health – and some simple things you should spot. So, here are six main signs and what they could mean:

1. Toenail Discoloration

The color and health of your toenails could be tell-tale signs of other underlying issues. Yellow toenails could be due to overusing nail polish, but yellowing can also be a sign of something more serious, like a fungal infection, eczema or psoriasis. Our Nail Guardian is full of natural ingredients for all nail health issues, including fungal infections, cracked and damaged nails, bringing them back to health!

2. Cold Feet… Even In The Heat

If your feet are constantly chilly, even when you’re wrapped up, it could be a sign of circulation issues or a change of nerve function in your feet. If they feel both cold and painful, it could suggest chilblains – patches of red, swollen and itchy skin. Diabetes or blood pressure issues could also result in cold feet – so it might be worth suggesting this to your doctor if other symptoms are present.

3. Numbness or Tingling

Similar to having constantly cold feet, any numbness could be due to bad circulation or a lack of blood flow to the foot. Most people will experience numbness if you’ve sat on your leg for too long, but if it occurs persistently or when you’re active and moving, then it’s something you shouldn’t ignore.

4. Dry, Flaking Skin

If the skin on your heels or the ball of your foot is dry, cracked, flaky or painful, it could be a warning sign that your thyroid function isn’t quite up to scratch. Your thyroid produces hormones that control your tissue growth (amongst other things) so dry, flaking skin could be a sign of a thyroid problem. Of course, dry skin can also be due to much less serious health conditions, but if you notice dry skin as well as other symptoms like weight gain, tiredness or numbness, then consult your doctor.

5. Constant Cramping

If you’re prone to foot cramp more often than you think you should, it could be a sign of poor blood flow, or that you’re low on magnesium or salts. Cramp is often a sign that not enough oxygen is getting to the muscles, so it could be a good idea to check your heart health or start taking a magnesium supplement.

6. Swollen Feet

If you’re feet swell a lot, it could be down to a number of reasons. Sometimes it could signal an internal injury or an infection that your body is trying to fight. Other conditions that cause Oedema (swelling) include heart problems or renal and lymphatic disease, so if it occurs for a long time when no apparent injury has occurred, get your doctor to run a few tests.

To wrap up...

Your feet are a window into a multitude of health problems, but most of them can be spotted early enough to treat! Make sure you keep your feet in good condition and be aware of any changes to how they look or feel. Set aside some time each week for a little pedicure pamper… your feet deserve it!
